Age requirement. What's On Tap is built for adults of legal drinking age. We don't knowingly collect
personal information from anyone under 18 (or the legal drinking age where you live, if higher).
This Privacy Policy explains how What's On Tap (“we,” “us,” or “our”)
collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our mobile app and related services
(the “App”). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of
information as described here.
1Information we collect
You give us directly
Account info — name, email, phone number (optional), date of birth, and a securely-handled password.
Profile info — photo, cover photo, bio, city/province.
Content you post — photos, videos, captions, comments, likes, group posts, and Stories (auto-deleted after 24 hours).
Messages — direct messages and group chat content.
Brewery/business details — for registered breweries, distilleries, and wineries: listings, beers, events, and brewery-wall content.
Anything you send our support team.
Collected automatically
Location — with your permission, to power the map, check-ins, and buddy live-tracking.
Usage data — screens viewed, features used, device/OS/app version, via Firebase Analytics.
Crash reports — an anonymous crash log plus your account ID (never name, email, or password), via Firebase Crashlytics.
A push-notification device token.
From other users
Follows, mentions, buddy requests, and nearby check-ins involving you.
Content others post that includes or tags you, visible per their audience settings.
2How we use it
Run your account, profile, and the core app — Newsfeed, Stories, Groups, the brewery map, check-ins, chat, and buddies.
Surface breweries, events, and content relevant to where you are.
Send the push notifications and brewery SMS messages you've opted into.
Keep the app safe — detecting abuse, spam, and policy violations.
Diagnose crashes and improve performance.
Meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
3Location data
Location access is optional — turn it on or off anytime in your device settings. Some features won't work fully without it.
Map & directory — your approximate location surfaces nearby breweries, distilleries, and wineries.
Check-ins — recorded with the brewery and date, and may show followers as “people you know checked in here.”
Live buddy tracking — only visible to a confirmed buddy while you're actively sharing, never to anyone else.
4How we share it
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
With other users, as the app's normal function — your public profile, posts, Stories, comments, and check-ins are visible per each feature's audience.
With breweries you follow, message, or opt in to hear from.
With the service providers who run our infrastructure:
Google FirebaseAuthentication, database, file storage, push notifications, analytics, and crash reporting.
Google MapsMap display and location search.
TwilioDelivers SMS messages from breweries you've opted in to.
If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of What's On Tap or our users.
If What's On Tap is part of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
5Data retention
24 hours
Stories are automatically removed from view.
Until you delete
Posts, comments, messages, and profile info stay until you remove them or close your account.
After deletion
Limited data may be kept where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
6Your choices & rights
Access & update most profile info directly in the app.
Delete posts, Stories, or comments anytime; contact us to delete your account entirely.
Location and notifications can be turned off anytime in device settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA — including access and objection rights. Contact us to exercise them.
7Data security
We rely on industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit and Google Firebase's access controls — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
8International users
Our services run on Google Firebase infrastructure, which may store and process data in the United States or other countries. Using the App means you consent to that transfer and processing.
9Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If a change is material, we'll notify you in the app or by other reasonable means before it takes effect. The effective date above reflects the latest revision.
